International Desk: Illegal expatriates living in the United Arab Emirates without a visa are getting another two months to become legal. The amnesty in the new term will continue till December 31. As a result, many will be freed from fines and sanctions. Earlier, the government announced amnesty from September 1 to October 31.
The UAE's Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) reported this on Thursday (October 31).
As a result of the amnesty, illegal immigrants are getting a chance to legalize. Those who previously held a residence visa in the Emirates and are currently invalid are able to find a 'sponsor' to become legal or leave the Emirates without jail, fines or sanctions.
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of ICP, said that the humanitarian aspect behind this decision is reflected, which allows violators to regularize their status by exempting them from fines.
He warned that fines will be reinstated for those who violate the residency rules despite the extended deadline. He also said that the ICP plans to intensify the inspection campaign against violators and take strict action to include violators in the no-entry list.
