Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Secretary General Quader Gani Chowdhury said that the defeat of the media means the defeat of the people. And the defeat of the people means the defeat of the state. So the media cannot be allowed to be defeated.
He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the annual general meeting of Journalist Union Cox's Bazar.
He also said that the courage to tell the truth is the motto of journalism. Honest journalism establishes the truth. Honest journalism worships the truth. Objective journalism advances society, develops democracy. So journalism should be done with honesty and devotion. Without honesty, there is no journalism. Society benefits when the pen of journalists is free. Again, if the power of the pen is not used for positive purposes, the nation will be destroyed. So there is no excuse for publishing objective news. On the one hand, it is not partisan journalism, not commercial purposes, the thoughts of the masses should be presented in the pages of the newspaper. No matter how many unwritten government regulations there are, no matter how powerful the barriers are, we have to talk about the people.
He thinks that people hate slave journalism wholeheartedly. Hate their surrender. Therefore, editors-journalists must play a fearless and fearless role against injustice.
President of Dhaka Journalist Union was the special guest at the annual general meeting. Shahidul Islam.
Quader Gani Chowdhury said in the general meeting held at the Cox's Bazar Press Club Auditorium on Friday afternoon under the chairmanship of Journalists' Union Cox's Bazar President GAM Ashek Ullah, "The mirror of the nation of newspapers is not only in paper and pen, not in speeches; The role of conscience of the nation must be played. It will be possible to make Bangladesh free from corruption and fascism only if we can do journalism without disillusionment.
This journalist said that we are so involved in factionalism and slavery journalism that we are wandering in blind alleys. Can't call white white. Newspapers are drowning in the dark alleys of politics. Such a partisan mentality has been created that no news or column based on facts has been seen in the newspapers in the last 15 years. At that time, it was said from the newspaper office that there is a lot of risk in publication. There is trouble. There are obstacles. A really good quality magazine has no commercial interests. No liability to any political party, group, government or foreign state or any of their agents.
Quader Gani Chowdhury said that a journalist's job is to present the true picture of society. That is why media is called the mirror of society. The image of the society is reflected in this mirror. A journalist should always be vocal against injustice, irregularity, oppression, exploitation and deprivation of rights. One has to act fearlessly and relentlessly, regardless of eye color. The picture of the prevailing social system has to be witnessed. It is the duty to highlight people's problems. Their days go through many obstacles. The powerful have to ignore the bloodshot eyes and move forward with courage. You have to stand upright in the midst of poverty. You have to work hard.
According to him, meaning is the constant companion of those who do journalism with honesty principles and ideals. They have to go through the tension. Running a family becomes very difficult for them. They have to spend their lives as prisoners of poverty. Still does not bow to falsehood. That is why journalists are called the conscience of the nation.
He said, today there is no journalist and journalism. The glorious world of Bangladeshi journalism is seen to be tarnished by the steps of some incompetent people. Many join this profession not out of any noble motive, but out of lack of money and the desire to make an impact in society. They do various scams by pretending to be journalists of Bhuifod media. Indulges in various activities. Targeting various individuals and institutions and threatening news coverage. Dedarse extorts money by showing fear. Within a short period of time they became the owners of financial resources and a few of the same type formed a journalist syndicate. They lack education and talent. They do not even know the correct definition of journalism. They build a good relationship with a couple of journalists. And copies the written news received from them and sends it to the media. Although there is a lot of ignorance, they go around in the guise of journalism. Due to them, the dignity of journalism profession is losing. The world of journalism is getting corrupted. Apart from identifying them, it is necessary to stand against these people.
He thinks that journalists need to take steps to keep the dignity of journalism intact and upheld. And journalists should not cooperate with them. They are destroying the dignity of journalists.
In the general meeting of JUC as a special guest, Dhaka Journalist Union President Md. Shahidul Islam said, we have not yet won the final victory. A partial victory has come. There are still conspiracies going on against the country in various ways. Sometimes through the Ansar rebellion, sometimes through the Judiciary, sometimes through attempts to discredit government advisors. Now we have to show patience.
He said to the journalists, if we don't match our actions and words, then the relationship between us will be destroyed. Now is not the time. Victory cannot be sustained if we are not united.
Journalist leader Shahidul Islam said that a large part of those who have played a role for fascism are journalists. If these journalists were right, there would be no fascism in the country.
