Fresh nuclear fuel or radioactive fuel (uranium) of the first unit of Rooppur nuclear power plant at Ishwardi in Pabna has reached Rooppur under strict security from Dhaka.

Bangladeshi and Russian officials on duty welcomed the radioactive fuel vehicle as it entered the Rooppur project area around 7am on Friday.

Rooppur power plant project director Dr. Zahidul Hasan confirmed the matter. He said that on Thursday afternoon, the first radioactive fuel from Russia was brought to Rooppur by road from Dhaka after reaching Dhaka by special plane for the second time. For the first time radioactive fuel has been brought to Rooppur by road with maximum security. Several more consignments will arrive in the country gradually.

Earlier on Thursday, the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom officially handed over the radioactive fuel.

Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi police station, said that sufficient security measures were taken for the vehicles carrying uranium to come to Rooppur.
