Former Housing and Public Works Minister Ram Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury has been sent to 5-day remand by the court in the case filed at Paltan police station on the charge of killing BNP worker Maqbul.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehra Mahbub's court ordered the remand on Friday.
In the remand hearing today, Abu Sufian, the lawyer for the accused, said, 'Ram Ubaidul Moktadir was in favor of the quota reform movement. On July 13, he gave a speech in favor of the movement. His statement went viral on various social media including Facebook. Abu Saeed, the first martyr of the quota movement, also shared that statement. He (Ubaidur Moqtadi) stood for the changed Bangladesh of today.'
In the hearing, this lawyer of Ubaidul Moktadir also claimed that Ubaidul Moktadir did not cooperate with fascists. He is a freedom fighter, fought for the country. He has done a lot of work for the development of the country. Was not involved in any illegal activity. He has nothing to do with this murder. 2021 Moktadir's heart has been diagnosed with 50 percent block, he is physically ill. Considering the humanitarian aspects, I am praying to cancel the remand of the accused and grant him bail.
In opposition to the bail hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor (PP) Omar Farooq Farooqui said that Ubaidul Moktadi was involved in politics during his student life. Then he became a secretary. He helped the fascist Hasina to stay in power. Being happy with him, Sheikh Hasina gifted him a ministry. He established the Rama-kingdom while he was a minister. He embezzled thousands of crores by allotting plots illegally. Helped people to kill, kill, sleep. Civil servant's job is to help the people; He didn't do that. To please Sheikh Hasina, she even created a project named after her (Sheikh Hasina).
PP also said that Ubaidul was not in favor of Moktadi's movement. He has always supported the fascist Hasina. I want maximum 10 days remand of the accused.
After the hearing of both parties, the judge ordered the remand of the accused Ubaidul Moktadir for 5 days.
Meanwhile, during the remand hearing of Ubaidul Moktadir, there was a commotion in the court. At one stage the judge ordered to maintain the respect of the court.
