The attention of the university authorities has been drawn to a report published in various media citing the meeting of the Advisory Council on October 31, regarding seven government colleges affiliated to Dhaka University (DU). The report mentions that according to the decision of the meeting of the advisory council, there will be a completely separate administrative system in Dhaka University for the maintenance of the seven government colleges, where there will be a separate registrar and other officials. However, these colleges will remain affiliated to Dhaka University.
In fact, the Dhaka University authorities have come to know about this decision of the Advisory Council from the reports published in various media. The ministry has not had any formal discussions with Dhaka University authorities regarding this proposal. After learning about the matter, the university authorities immediately discussed with the concerned advisers and various high levels of the government with utmost importance. The government also responded with sincerity considering the public importance of the matter.
The government has agreed to hold an emergency meeting in this regard at the earliest (possible date is next Sunday) at the ministry level with the main stakeholders including the concerned students.
It may be noted that the students of government seven colleges were demanding the establishment of an independent university and the students of Dhaka University were demanding cancellation of the affiliation of government seven colleges. Dhaka University authorities feel that there is a need for more discussion on this issue with important stakeholders including government seven colleges and students of Dhaka University. It is only through dialogue that a sustainable and peaceful solution can be reached.
