Saidul Islam, deputy commissioner of Chittagong Custom House, said that the market price of luxury cars including duty is Tk 8 to 12 crore. The engine capacity of the car is 3 thousand to 4 thousand cc. Usually up to 850 percent duty is levied on such vehicles. But the MPs used to get 100% duty free benefits on these cars. Now that there is no parliament, they will no longer get duty-free facilities.

General Secretary of Chittagong Customs Auction Traders Welfare Association Mohammad Ayakub Chowdhury said that the consignments which are not redeemed by the importers within the specified period, but are usable, are auctioned by the custom house. Products that have lost their usefulness due to spoilage or are dangerous are destroyed. However, the importer has to collect the imported goods within 30 days of landing at the Chittagong port yard. If any importer does not take delivery of the goods within this period, Chittagong Port Authority sends it to the Auction Branch of Customs. The auction branch then issues a notice to the importer concerned. Customs may auction the goods within a total of 45 days if the goods are not delivered within 15 days of the notice .

Meanwhile, barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon, a former member of parliament of Habiganj-4 (Madhavpur-Chunarughat) constituency, survived for a short while. After realizing the situation of the student movement, he left their car from Chittagong last July.
