What effect will the US election have on the war in Ukraine?

Ukrainian troops launched a counterattack against Russian troops in the southeastern region of Zaporizhzhya. It was hoped that they would be able to repel the 'occupying' Russian troops. But the Ukrainian troops had little or no success. By doing this, sustaining their ambition becomes a liability.

Russian missiles and bombings are still going on daily in various cities and villages of Ukraine, and Ukrainian soldiers are being subjected to continuous Russian attacks.

Meanwhile, Democratic candidate and current vice president Kamala Harris has indicated that she will continue military aid to Ukraine if she wins the election. But even if he wins, his power could be hampered in the Republican-controlled Congress. If the Republican candidate and former President Trump wins, the US military aid to Ukraine may decrease compared to now. At the moment, the amount of this assistance in the country is more than 50 billion (5 thousand crore) dollars.

Whether Kamala or Trump, whoever becomes the next president of the United States, the outcome of this election will have a profound effect on everyone living on the border with Ukraine and even in the country itself.

For example, if they (Orange or Trump) ask Ukraine to cede some territory to Russia and withdraw from the frontline, areas like Zaporizhzhia could suddenly become divided like North and South Korea. Although the armistice in the 1950s stopped fighting between the two Koreas and their allies, the Korean War has not yet officially ended.

Trump says he will 'figure something out' to resolve conflict between Ukraine and Russia. He hinted that Russia may have to give up some territory in Ukraine to stop the war.

A second option that the US could take is to completely withdraw support from Ukraine. As a result, Russian forces could gradually take over the areas they wanted, and eventually all of Ukraine.

Ukrainians definitely see Kamala as their preferred candidate. Ukrainian journalists are also trying to counter the 'Russian disinformation' against him. However, support for Trump is gradually increasing among people across the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine. They want an immediate end to the war with Russia. They believe that Trump's victory is the biggest chance to end this war.

A third scenario may also unfold ahead of Ukraine. That is, recovery of all territories occupied by Russia. But apparently that will never happen.

Andria is a Ukrainian soldier. He is in charge of commanding a unit of the front-deployed US-made armored vehicle fleet. Andrea was saying, 'If (US) aid is stopped or reduced, the burden will fall on the shoulders of our troops. We will fight with what we have. But everyone knows, it (fight against Russia) is not possible for Ukraine alone.

Naturally, Andrea and her fellow soldiers are looking forward to the November 5th US election. Uncertainty over this is already dampening Ukraine's ambitions on the battlefield and frustrating political efforts to secure more military aid.

If (U.S.) aid is stopped or reduced, the burden will fall on the shoulders of our troops. We will fight with what we have. But everyone knows, it (fight against Russia) is not possible for Ukraine alone.

In such context, Ukrainians definitely see Kamala as their preferred candidate.
