Underground electrical connection work is progressing slowly in Demra of the capital. People have suffered greatly due to unplanned road closures. According to Roads and Public Ways (Soaz) Department, they have not taken permission to dig the road.

Under Demra police station, under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) ward number 66, the installation of 11,000 kilowatt high power underground electric cable is underway on Badsha Mia Road in Matuail New Town area. Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) is working on this. Dhaka Road Department made a general diary in this regard on October 15 at Demra police station.

However, DPDC says otherwise about approval. They said that according to the rules permission for this work has been taken from the engineering department of DSCC. But that road belongs to Dhaka District Road Department.

It has been seen on the surface that Badsha Mia road is about 1 km long. Hamida Trading Limited is working on the installation of DPDC underground high voltage electric cable on the road. Common people who travel on this road constantly, students of various educational institutions including schools, colleges and madrasas have suffered the most. Besides, the vehicles plying on this road are suffering from unbearable traffic jam.

Allegedly, permission was given from DSCC to complete the work within 15 days, but only 40 percent of the work was completed after 17 days.

The organization has claimed that the company has caused a loss of around 4.5 crore rupees due to the uncoordinated digging of the road by DPDC.

In this regard, Bayejid Bangali, sub-divisional engineer of Dhaka District Road Department, said that Dhaka Road Department took Badsha Mia Road under their control several years ago to ease the suffering of common people. But DPDC did not take our approval before cutting the road. Later, when asked about the digging of that road, they said that they have taken permission from DSCC. And according to the rules, DSCC cannot give permission to cut the road. He also said that by cutting this road, DPDC has acted against the law and also increased the suffering of the common people several times. So I have given a written complaint to Demra police station. Which will be filed subject to investigation. Here Dhaka District Road Department has suffered a loss of Tk 4 crore 50 lakh.

Deputy Assistant Engineer of DSCC in this regard. Lincoln Hasan said, DPDC has taken approval from the concerned department of DSCC. Our superiors have been informed about this from the Dhaka District Road Department. Which will be addressed through discussion with the concerned parties. However, we have given DPDC time to complete the work within 15 days.

Demra Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Elias Hossain said, we have received the complaint. Necessary legal action will be taken based on the complaint if there is no coordinated solution between the concerned parties. In this case, both parties should come to a quick solution.
