Last Sunday (October 27) around 11:30 p.m., the incident took place at Tarkanta Bazar in Galdapara village of Kauraid Union of the upazila.
The victim Jahammad Ali Munsi (65) is the son of deceased Ali Akbar of Galdapara village of the upazila. He collects chaff from the forest and makes brooms and sells them.
Accused Md. Bablu (50) is the BNP president of Ward No. 4 of Kauraid Union of Sreepur Upazila.
On Saturday (November 02) at noon, the media persons went to the house of the victim, Jahammad Ali Munsi. Narrating the incident, he told reporters that a relative of mine came to visit my house last Sunday night. Suddenly some people led by the local BNP leader Bablu came and said, illegal work is done in my house! Around 11pm they forcibly took me to the local star market. They beat me with sticks and demanded a bribe of 50,000 rupees. When I refused to pay the bribe, I was kept in the market and brought home with the cow tied to the cowshed. He brought cows and sold them to Bepari. I could not save the only possession even with many crying hands and feet. I can't explain how much they beat me!
Jahammad Ali said to the journalists, you see what I am wearing! I make brooms by collecting sticks from the forest and sell them from house to house. Today my barn is empty. I don't have the courage to seek justice for fear of them. I gave judgment to Allah as a poor man.
Jamena Khatun, wife of Jahammad Ali Munsi, said several people came at 11 pm. They entered the house and beat my husband and took him away. After a while some people came and left with cows from the cowshed. I could not save the cows by holding their hands and feet. All night I cried in the courtyard. I could not stop torturing my husband. They are brutally beating my husband like a dog. They give me 6 thousand rupees for selling cows. I don't know anything about how much cows are selling for.
When asked about this from the cow buyer, Islam Uddin, he told reporters, "My house and the incident place are next to each other, so I called Anna." I am buying cows at market price, can't say more than that.
The president of the 4th Ward BNP of Kawraid Union said about the complaint. Several calls were made to the mobile number used by Bablu but he did not pick up.
When contacted later, member of ward number 4 of Kawraid Parishad. Momenul Quader said, I went to the spot at night after learning about the detention of Jahammad Ali Munsi. After leaving, Jahammad was entrusted to his relatives. I have seen the issue of taking bribe by selling cows on social media.
