In a report published on Saturday (November 2), the BBC reported that the 18-foot-tall, 1-tonne Cassius was estimated to be 110 years old.
Cassius was caught in a swamp in northern Australia in 1984. It was later brought to the Marineland Crocodile Park on Green Island, Queensland.
In 2011, Cassius was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's largest captive crocodile.
A Facebook post on Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat's Facebook page said: 'Cassius will be deeply missed. He will be in our love and memories - in our hearts forever.'
Cassius is known to be originally a saltwater crocodile, which is known to be the largest crocodile of its species. Crocodiles are generally long-lived, and saltwater crocodiles can live to be over 70 years old. But Cassius was older.
