Ukraine is losing territory as it violates agreements: Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Ukraine was losing territory due to continued treaty violations by the current regime in Kiev and its Western allies.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Ukraine was losing territory due to continued treaty violations by the current regime in Kiev and its Western allies.

"The more the current Ukrainian government violates the agreement, the more territory the country is losing," he said.

Lavrov made the comments at the opening ceremony of the 16th Russian World Assembly held in Moscow on Saturday.

At that time, he said, 'If they had sincerely followed the agreements accepted in February 2014, then nothing that is happening now would have happened. And Crimea used to be part of Ukraine. But in haste they broke the agreement and wanted to change the government'.

Lavrov also said that even after the Minsk agreements were adopted in 2015, the Kiev government did not want to abide by the terms of the agreements.

In his words, 'If the Minsk agreement had been followed... Yes, Crimea was already separated from Ukraine, but Ukraine could have maintained its borders, including the entire Donbass region. But they refused to grant special status to Donbass, which was meant to guarantee the people of Donbass the right to speak their own language.

Referring to the third peace talks in Istanbul in April 2022, the Russian Foreign Minister said, 'There was an opportunity for a solution through those talks, but they did not agree to it. President Vladimir Putin then explained the importance of the agreement. But the current situation is very different from April 2022'.

According to Lavrov, the government of Ukraine has repeatedly ignored the agreements, which has brought them not only political instability, but also territorial threats. Source: Tas
