After two years of Manikganj Zilla Parishad elections, the defeated candidate, KM Bajlul Haque Ripon, a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court held a press conference to demand the annulment of the results announced for the post of chairman.

The press conference was held at Manikganj Press Club auditorium on Saturday afternoon.

He told the press conference that he filed a case in the District Council Election Tribunal due to the illegal and planned defeat of him in the election.

After reading the written news, KM Bajlul Haque Khan Ripon said, Manikganj District Awami League President Golam Mohiuddin was my main opponent in the Zilla Parishad elections. The miscreants of his party tried to kill me several times, vandalized and looted my house to remove me from the election. Assaulted me and my family. When he saw that the candidate of Awami League could not win even through rigging in the election, his party declared him elected by abusing the administration and political power.

In all other districts, the results are announced by 4 pm, but in Manikganj, the meeting continues till 8 pm to select the nominated candidate. My agents and workers were beaten up and thrown out of the polling station. After this incident, I filed a case in Zilla Parishad Election Tribunal, which is ongoing.

Former Jail Superintendent and President of Stadium Road Jame Masjid Helal Uddin, General Secretary Abdur Rashid, Principal of Mauhali High School Rezaul Karim Hena, retired government official Shafiur Rahman and others were present at the press conference.
