What India said about Adani cutting power supply

The Indian government has no role in the issue between the government of Bangladesh and Adani Power Limited, said Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

The Indian government has no role in the issue between the government of Bangladesh and Adani Power Limited, said Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

He said this at the weekly media briefing on Saturday (November 2) regarding Adani's power supply to Bangladesh.

Randhir Jaiswal said, this is an agreement between a non-governmental organization and the government of Bangladesh. The matter is related to the terms of the agreement between the two parties and the Government of India has no role in this agreement. So I don't have any information to report on that right now.

Recently, India's Adani Power Jharkhand Limited has reduced electricity supply to Bangladesh by half. According to the data of Power Grid Bangladesh PLC, the Adani plant stopped half of the power supply from last Thursday midnight. The 1,496 MW power plant is currently generating about 700 MW of electricity per unit, which has affected the national production.

It is said that they took this decision after not getting the due bills on time. Earlier, they were supposed to pay the money to the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) by October 31 as per the 'Power Purchase Agreement' written to the Power Secretary. Gautam Adani warned in advance about that.

As a warning, the Adani group sent a letter to the interim government on October 27. But due to non-payment of bills in time, electricity supply was reduced from Thursday i.e. 31st. According to the calculations, till now the amount due for electricity supply is 846 million US dollars.

Adani's company said that Bangladesh Electricity Development Board has not given a letter of credit of USD 170.03 million from Bangladesh Krishi Bank. 846 crore has not been cleared. The Adani group also said that if the dues are not cleared, the decision may be taken to completely stop the supply.

Adani company is supplying electricity to several power plants in Bangladesh. However, the price of electricity has been increased since July. It has been said that the price has increased due to the extraction of coal from Indonesia and Australia. Instead of $18 million a week, it rose to $22 million. Bangladesh government is also aware of that.

Although the Bangladesh Electricity Department has claimed that the previous arrears have been cleared, the Adani Group has increased the price of electricity since last July. The agency is charging an additional $22 million per week. Due to which this huge amount remains outstanding.
