Jumbangla Desk: Fishermen have started getting the benefits of 22 days during the hilsa breeding season. A big fish weighing 13 kg was caught in Patuakhali Payra river.
This fish was caught in the net of fishermen Rakib Howladar and Ziyad in Payra River near Nandipara of Patuakhali Sadar Upazila on Monday (November 4). At this time, eager people gather at Paraganj Ferighat to catch a glimpse of the fish. Fishermen took the fish and brought it to Paraganj Jalal Fakir's fish farm.
Fisherman Rakib Howladar said, "We did not catch any fish in the river for 22 days during the Hilsa breeding season. However, after 12 o'clock yesterday night, both of us went fishing. When we pulled the net on Monday morning, we found this fifty fish with six small hilsa in our net.
They also said, 'We have been fishing in this river for ten years but till now we have not caught such a big pangas in our nets.'
Local resident Kavi Munshi said, 'I have never seen such a big fish in the river before. So I came to see. If it is cut and sold, then I will take one kilogram.'
Artdar Jalal Fakir said, 'Many people are flocking to buy the fish. According to the demands of the locals, I will cut the fish and sell it in installments at 1000 to 1100 taka per kg. If not, I will send it to Dhaka today and hope to get a better price there.'
Patuakhali District Fisheries Officer. Kamrul Islam said, 'Districts have started getting the success of these 22 days of Hilsa breeding season. The river currently has a large number of pangas and other fish, including large hilsa.'
He hopes that not only the Payra river but all the rivers of Bangladesh will find such fish in the fishermen's nets.
