Jumbangla Desk: Drugs are entering the country. Drugs are coming by water, land and air. These drugs are being infiltrated from neighboring countries India and Myanmar. So far 25 types of drugs have been identified in the country. Drugs are now a cause of panic. The Directorate of Narcotics Control (DNC) has identified 32 districts bordering Bangladesh as red zones as entry points for drugs. The report identified 386 drug spots in 96 police stations of 32 districts in six divisions. According to the DNC, Bangladesh is at the very center of the 'Golden Triangle' and 'Golden Crescent' international drug smuggling routes. According to the United Nations Organization on Drug Control (UNODC), only 10 percent of the drugs entering Bangladesh are caught.

Experts say that there are more than 1 crore drug addicts in the country, even though there are no official statistics. Approximately 60 thousand crore rupees are spent on drugs annually. About 200,000 people work in the network of sponsors, traders, carriers and sales in this business. This number is increasing every year. 481 million US dollars or about 5 thousand 147 crore taka are smuggled out of Bangladesh every year due to drugs. Curiosity, family turmoil, unemployment, failure in love, persuasion of friends, bad company, depression and negative influence of Akash culture increase the number of drug addicts. Drug addicts become dependent on family and society. They are involved in criminal activities.
It is known that along the western border of Bangladesh, Hasnabad, Taki, Basirhat, Swarupnagar, Baduria, North Twenty-four Parganas, Bangaon, Petrapol, Hellencha, Bhavanipur, Ranaghat, Amritbazar, Birampur, Karimpur, Nadia, Maldah, Balurghat, Aurangabad, Nimtita, along the western border of India. Drugs are entering through all areas at 15 points in Satkhira, Jessore, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Joypurhat and Dinajpur. Drugs enter Kurigram, Sherpur, Mymensingh and Netrakona through four points in India's Assam and Meghalaya bordering Bangladesh.
Drugs are entering Sylhet, Brahmanbaria, Comilla and Feni through four points in India's Assam , Tripura and Mizoram on the eastern border of Bangladesh. Drugs are entering through 17 spots in Naogaon through South Dinajpur in India. Bangladesh is bounded by the Indian state of West Bengal to the north-west, Assam to the north, Meghalaya to the north and north-east and Tripura and Mizoram to the east. It borders with Myanmar to the southeast. Bangladesh has 32 districts with border lines between the two countries.
Drugs are entering through 386 spots of these borders. 88 percent of drugs come from India, 8 percent from Myanmar and 4 percent from other countries. 17 percent of the total drugs entering the country are coming to Dhaka and its surrounding areas. The remaining 83 percent of drugs are spreading across the country. The most active drug routes along the 271 km border with Myanmar have become a headache. Billions of pieces of yaba are coming in from Myanmar through Cox's Bazar and adjacent areas. Most of the yaba is produced in the Shan and Kachin provinces on the Myanmar-China border.
Yaba is entering Bangladesh through 15 points like Sabaigon, Tumbru, Mongdu in Teknaf, Saint Martin in Teknaf, Shahpari Island, Dhumdhumia, Cox's Bazar Highway, Ukhia, Katapahar, Balukhali, Ghumdhum in Bandarban, Naikxyongchari, Damdamia, Jelepara. Director of RAB's law and media wing, Lt. Col. Munim Ferdous said, no one involved in drugs is being exempted.
DNC Director (Operations and Intelligence) Tanveer Mumtaz said, whoever is involved in drug dealing is being cracked down on. Campaigns are continuing to raise awareness. Skilled manpower is being provided at the spots through which drugs are entering. Police Headquarters AIG (Media) Inamul Haque Sagar said, drugs are a social problem. In this case, police work on zero tolerance policy. People from all walks of life should work together.
