Jumbangla Desk: Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abu Bakar Siddique has been accused of picking up a cloth shopkeeper in Shariatpur's Damudya and keeping him in his office and beating him. The victim businessman filed a written complaint with the District Commissioner seeking justice in this incident.
According to the complaint of the District Commissioner's office, Solaiman Faraji of Char Dhankati area was running a small cloth shop in Moderhat Bazar area of the upazila for a long time. Mobile court judge and assistant commissioner (land) Abu Bakar Siddique conducted the operation in the market at around 11 o'clock on Thursday (October 31). At that time, he asked Solaiman Faraji for the trade license of the business establishment, he first showed the photocopy and then the original copy. After that, when I asked him for income tax certificate, he could not show it. Later he was fined 1 thousand 100 taka by mobile court.
However, Aceland Abu Bakar Siddique had a discussion with Sulaiman Faraji about paying the fine as a small shopkeeper. At one point, Assistant Commissioner (Lands) Abu Bakar Siddique got angry and took the Ansar member in the car and brought him to his office. Sulaiman alleged that after holding him there, he was first held by the ear and later beaten by Ansar and himself with a stick.
After receiving the news, Amir Maulana Saiful Islam of Damudya Upazila Jamaat and Amir Atiqur Rahman Kabir of the Municipal Jamaat went to the spot and released them with a fine of Tk 2,000. Suleiman Farazi, the victim, filed a written complaint with the Deputy Commissioner in this incident on Monday (November 4) morning.
Eyewitness and Amir of Damudya Upazila Jamaat Maulana Saiful Islam was surprised at such an incident. Expressing his anger, he said, we rushed to Aceland's office after getting the news. He asked Sulaiman Faraji in front of us to abuse the Ansar and at one point with a stick to beat the Ansar member. Ansar started beating him and he (Asiland) himself got up and started beating him. If someone makes a mistake, he can be threatened, fined. But an official can take the law into his own hands and beat it which is unimaginable. We want a fair trial of this incident. So that no officer can do such activities later.
Sulaiman Faraji complained and said, I am a small trader in the village. When I was fined I just said, we are village shopkeepers so we don't keep income tax certificate. That's why he got angry and took me in the car to his office and made me sit by my ear. Later his Ansar members beat me all over with sticks. He himself beat me with a stick.
Even as a government official, he treated me inhumanely. He killed me and injured me. I want justice for this incident.
Regarding the complaint, Damudya Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abu Bakar Siddique said that a billing license must be obtained from the office of the District Commissioner to run the business. But the businessman was running the company without the license. There is a statutory provision for him to be imprisoned. However, on the request of three Jamaat leaders, I released him after paying a fine of 2,000. But no beating happened.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashraf Uddin assured to take necessary measures subject to investigation.
He said, I came to know about this through you. A committee will be formed soon to investigate this incident. Necessary action will be taken if found to be true in the investigation.
