According to the BBC report, two senior government officials have told them that they have already started the process of partial payment of Adani's dues.
A senior official of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) said on condition of anonymity, "I have already issued a credit check of 170 million dollars to the Adani Group."
Adani supplies 1,600 MW of electricity to Bangladesh from coal-fired plants located in eastern India; Which is 10 percent of the electricity used in Bangladesh.
However, Adani Group has threatened to stop electricity supply to Bangladesh from November 7 if the outstanding $800 million is not paid.
The report also said that Adani Group did not respond when contacted by the BBC regarding the ultimatum to cut off electricity supply to Bangladesh.
The official added, 'We do not believe it will go to the point where Adani will stop supply entirely. Bangladesh will regularly pay this debt in stages. They also hope that this crisis will be resolved very quickly.
In a response, Fazul Kabir Khan, Adviser on Power and Energy to the Interim Government, said, 'We are shocked and surprised that the supply has been stopped despite increasing our payment. We are ready to pay the dues and make alternative arrangements, but will not allow any power producer to hold us hostage or blackmail us.'
Earlier, the Adani Group has given Bangladesh a deadline of November 7 to pay the dues due to electricity, such news has been published in the Indian media.
A report in the Times of India last Sunday said, 'Adani Power will stop supplying electricity to Bangladesh if the $850 million dues are not paid by November 7.'
However, the Adani Group softened its tone when Bangladesh responded in this regard. They also denied the ultimatum to set a time limit for payment of electricity dues. Adani said it did not demand the full $850 million due by November 7.
