Jumbangla Desk: After 8 years in Chittagong University (CHB), the university administration published the first merit list by allocating seats in residential halls. Subject to vacant seats, the second merit list was supposed to be published next week, but they did not publish it even after a gap of four weeks. The waiting students are worried when this allotment list will be released.

It is known that after the allotment of hall seats on October 4, various complaints were made by the students. After looking into the complaints, the university administration has not disclosed the second merit based on merit. The waiting students are in trouble. They said that it is difficult to stay out of the hall as the examinations of various years of most departments have started.

Students said that 50 people got seats from some department and few got seats from some department. Again, many students take seats in the hall, but do not stay. Besides, one student got seat in two halls. On the other hand, after a long time the examination has started in almost all the departments as the campus became functional towards the end of the year. In this situation, the students on the waiting list are in despair as the housing system is not resolved.

Mostak Ahmed, a fourth year student of statistics department, said that the administration is not giving the second merit after giving the first merit of hall seat allocation. On this side, all those who are waiting are sitting with a hope that if merit is given, the hall will rise. In such a situation, no one could take a house outside. Many departmental exams have already started and many departments have given the dates of the exam due to which accommodation is difficult. We want the administration to release the second merit as soon as possible.

It is known that the students are already staying in the halls legally. Some new seats have been allocated. About 30 percent of the seats in the student halls are vacant. Among them, almost half of the seats in Alaol and AF Rahman halls are vacant. Among the other halls, Suhrawardy Hall does not have many vacant seats. Some seats are vacant in Amanat, Shahjalal and Abdur Rab halls. On the other hand, the operations of newly constructed Bangabandhu Hall and Atish Dipankar Srigyan Hall have not started yet.

According to ICT cell and university sources, around 700 applications have been received with various problems and complaints after the publication of the first merit list. University administration said that it is taking time to solve these and publish the second merit list. It was also informed that every complaint of the students is being taken into consideration.

Director of ICT Cell Professor Saidur Rahman Chowdhury said, We are thoroughly verifying the complaints received in our ICT Cell. It will take a week to complete these works. We will publish the second merit list as soon as we finish our work.

University Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin said that several complaints have been received after the publication of the first merit list. Taking them into consideration, work is going on. We want to ensure that the complaints that have come up are not repeated in the future. Seats have been allocated keeping 100% transparency. It is expected that the second merit list will be released within a week.
