Jumbangla Desk: Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, said that there are 36 brick kilns in one area in Ramgati, Noakhali, outside Dhaka. How did they get the clearance? How did they manage so long? That should be answered by the Department of Environment.
Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan
He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of Bangladesh National Air Quality Management Plan 2024-2030 at the Directorate of Environment on Tuesday.
Pointing out that there is no quick solution to protect the environment, he said, we can start some work. You know, no new brick kilns are allowed. We have set up a committee for zigzag brick kilns to ensure compliance.
The environmental advisor said, if the implementation of this air quality management plan can be ensured within 5 to 7 years, then we will be able to bring Dhaka out of the slander of the city with the most polluted air and protect public health.
Addressing the officials of the Department of Environment, he further said that they should increase their capacity. The committee should be made with its own manpower. Do not join other's committees and mix with them. Can't speak without evidence. We want a report on the level of environmental pollution in Matarbari and other projects. I want to release the report to the public.
Regarding the causes of environmental pollution, he also said that the household cooking by burning cow dung in the village causes pollution. Many women in Bangladesh die due to this pollution. Pollution is coming from coal based power projects, diesel powered generators, brick kilns, cement factories, iron steel mills, vehicles, medical waste. We are still lagging behind refinery standards. For better environment, we can take action against construction, road dust, bricks, cement. In some places I can already work regularly. To do this, we do not need to sit for the project.
He also said that questions have been raised about the work done earlier on air pollution. So we will do those things, how much money will be there, how much money will be spent in which sector should be clear. For this, it will be pre-committed to the committee for maintenance.
