Two Peruvian clubs, Juventud Beavista and Familia Chukka, were playing in the city of Huancayo. According to a post on social media, water had accumulated in various parts of the field due to rain during the match. In addition, due to the storm, the referee ordered the two teams to leave the field and return to the dressing room.

A footballer named Jose Hugo de la Cruz Mesa was killed by lightning when the footballers were returning to the dressing room. He immediately lost consciousness. Five footballers around him also fell in the same way.

They were later taken to the hospital. But Mesa could not be saved. Eric Estevene Sainte Quilor, Josep Gustavo Pariona Chokka and Christian Pitui Cahuana are admitted to the hospital. Apart from this, Huan Chokka Lakta's condition is critical.
