Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Husnay Ara Shikha confirmed the matter on Wednesday. He said that Shakib Al Hasan's bank account has been seized on the orders of the government.
Earlier, on October 2, Bangladesh Bank's financial intelligence agency had subpoenaed the bank accounts of Shakib and his wife Umm Ahmed Shishir to investigate manipulation and financial irregularities in the capital market. Recently, after the investigation, all his bank accounts were seized.
Shakib Al Hasan was a member of parliament in the Awami League government that fell in the face of the student movement. He was out of the country during the student movement. He did not even comment on behalf of the students in this incident. The agitators considered his silence during the agitation as support for the fallen government.
It was thought that Shakib's cricket career will end after August 5. But the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) shows respect to the cricketer Shakib. He was given an opportunity to play in the national team from outside the country. He played Test series for the team in Pakistan and India. He then announced his retirement from Test and T20 formats in Kanpur, India. However, he wants to play the last Test match of his career in Dhaka against South Africa.
Initially, Shakib Al Hasan's arrival in the country was almost certain. However, before the series, he could not catch the country's flight even after arriving in Dubai from Los Angeles on October 16. He was ordered by the government not to return home from Mahal. Not only that, Shakib's opponents started a rally in front of the Mirpur Stadium to prevent him from coming to the country. On the other hand, the day before the match, Shakib's fans took a position in front of the stadium. Mirpur became a battlefield due to the conflict between the two sides. Later police and army brought the situation under control.
Meanwhile, BCB did not keep Shakib in the team for the ODI series against Afghanistan. It is known that Shakib's fans will demand his return to the country only if he is kept in the national team. If that happens, there will be chaos in the country again. Not only that, even if he is allowed to play in the BPL, his security will be one of the major headaches for BCB. Then it will be difficult to give importance to Shakib alone among the domestic and foreign cricketers of 7 teams. Due to this, his coming to the country or playing for the country has become uncertain.
On the other hand, it is known that Shakib Al Hasan himself no longer wants to play for the country due to the seizure of his bank account after these complications.
