Jumbangla Desk: The policy makers of BNP who have been demanding elections within a 'reasonable' time have started thinking of not being patient for much longer. They will ask the interim government for the roadmap for the National Assembly elections within the next two-three months. If not, the party's policy-making leaders are thinking of starting a program to demand elections around March-April. This matter was discussed in the BNP Standing Committee meeting last Monday night. But no decision was made.
However, the day after the meeting of the standing committee, Mirza Abbas, a member of the standing committee of the BNP, said that the interim government should clarify how long it will take to reform the state structure. No tricks are allowed. People will not accept this government for long. He said, 'The government is not talking about the election. When we talk about elections, you say we are eager to come to power. Now if we say, you are crazy to stay in power without talking about elections.'
Related responsible sources said that in the BNP Standing Committee meeting, several members questioned the statements and activities of some advisors of the interim government regarding the election. Some also expressed doubts about the activities of some.
A member of the standing committee, who did not wish to be named, told Prothom Alo that the statements of the advisors of the interim government, the government's long-winded statements on state reform, and the various activities of the government are showing disinterest in elections. Doubts about the government's aims and objectives are intensifying.
The source said that the meeting also discussed the proposal of names for the search committee for the formation of the Election Commission. Political parties have to propose names to the search committee by tomorrow. BNP will decide the names of four people today.
Last Monday night, BNP chairperson's standing committee meeting was held at Gulshan office. Party General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other members were present. Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman joined the meeting virtually.
