Sheikh Mujahidur Rahman Chandan, a son of Kishoreganj, has been elected US Senator from the Democratic Party for the fourth time in a row. Chandan won the Democratic Party's election from District-Five in the state of Georgia by a landslide. He received 70 percent more votes than Republican challenger Lisa Babbage.
Earlier, Sheikh Mujahidur Rahman Chandan was elected senator from the same constituency three times. He is the first Bangladeshi-American and Georgia's first Muslim legislator.
Sheikh Rahman Chandan was born in Sararchar village of Bajitpur in Kishoreganj district. In 1981, he went to the United States for higher education. Chandan holds a BBA degree from the University of Georgia. 63-year-old Sheikh Mujahidur Rahman Chandan is the son of freedom fighter Najibur Rahman of Bajitpur Sararchar area and the elder brother of Kishoreganj District BNP vice-president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal, a member of the central BNP executive committee. He is the eldest among three brothers and four sisters.
