The court sentenced one person to death and another to life imprisonment in the case of strangulation of a woman five years ago in Chittagong.

Chittagong Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sirajam Munira announced the verdict on Thursday. Among the accused, Nezam Uddin was present in the court when the verdict was announced. Later he was sent to jail. However, the accused Abdul Halim, who was sentenced to life, is absconding.
Among the accused, Nezam Uddin has been sentenced to death, a fine of 20,000 taka and in default of payment, the court ordered another six months of imprisonment without labour.
The other accused, Abdul Halim, was sentenced to life imprisonment, a fine of Tk 20,000 and another six months in default of payment, and the accused Abu Siddique Rubel was acquitted by the court.
Convicted Nezam Uddin (30) is the son of deceased Jalal Ahmed of Halimpur village of Rajanagar union of Rangunia upazila of Chittagong. Nezam is a resident of North Agrabad's Muhuri neighborhood of Doublemooring police station in the city.

Peshkar Omar Fuad of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court said that the court sentenced Nezam Uddin to death and Abdul Halim to life imprisonment as the charge of murder under section 302 was proved against the accused Nezam Uddin and Abdul Halim.
Among the accused, Nezam Uddin gave a statement under section 164 of the court, Omar Fuad also said.
In 2019, 30-year-old Rebecca Sultana Moni was murdered on the fourth floor of a building owned by Jamal in Muradnagar Mirddapara area of Bayezid Bostami police station. On the night of May 13 that year, a team of police went there after receiving reports of foul smell coming from that house.
Police recovered Moni's body lying on the floor of the room in the presence of locals.
The corpse was rotting. Five months before the incident, Moni had moved in as a tenant in the house along with another woman's younger sister and a man named Abdul Majeed (Abdul Halim said his name was Abdul Majeed when he rented the house) and the younger sister's husband.
After the body was recovered, Bayezid Bostami police station SI said. Rezaul Islam filed a murder case against unknown persons as plaintiff.
According to the documents of the case, Abdul Halim rented a house and kept some women there for prostitution in exchange of money. Nezam Uddin, an employee of a furniture shop, used to visit that house in Mirdapara regularly due to his previous acquaintance with Abdul Halim.
According to the details of the case, initially there were three women in that house in Mirdapara, but Abdul Halim used to keep their wages. So later the two women left. Later only Moni would stay there.
Halim became angry and decided to kill Moni because Moni asked Abdul Halim for about one and a half lakh taka to give for his sister's wedding. He wants Nezam's help for this. Nezam said in his deposition that he went to that house in Mirdapara on the morning of May 11, 2019. At that time Moni was alone at home.
Nejam slapped Moni on the ground and strangled her. At one point, when Moni's mouth started bleeding, Nezam released him. Then when Moni tried to scream, Nezam killed her by twisting the veil around her neck and left the house. Nezam took Moni's mobile phone while leaving. The police came to know about the murder by arresting Nezam a week after the body was found on the basis of that phone.
In 2020, a complaint was formed against three accused in the court of Chittagong Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shariful Alam Bhunya.
It is said that accused Nezam Uddin killed Rebecca Sultana by strangulation on the orders of accused Abdul Halim. And because Abu Siddiq Rubel did not tell anyone about the incident, the court also ordered to file a complaint against him. After the testimony of 11 people in this case, the court gave this verdict on Thursday.
