According to the Indian media, this incident started on this day based on a poster. As soon as the assembly session started in the morning, Baramulla MLA Engineer Rashid's brother and Awami Ittehad Party MLA Khurshid Ahmed Sheikh put up a poster protesting the abrogation of Article 370.
BJP MLA Sunil Sharma objected to that poster. After this BJP MLAs started shouting slogans. First there was a scuffle between the ruling and the opposition legislators, then a regular hand-to-hand fight. Security guards were forced to enter the assembly premises to stop it. Speaker Abdul Rahim Rathore adjourned the session after this incident.
According to the news, two demands were written on that banner. Article 370 should be reinstated and political prisoners should be released. Immediately, the BJP objected to the display of that banner by Khurshid Ahmed Sheikh. Leader of Opposition in Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma strongly objected to the banner. But Khurshid Ahmed refused to remove the banner.
After that, a dispute and at one point a fight started between the two parties. BJP MLAs came down to Well. Independent and Awami Ittehad Party MLAs came down. Finally the security guards have to be summoned. With that, the session has to be adjourned.
Earlier on Wednesday, a resolution demanding the return of special status to Jammu and Kashmir was passed in the assembly. A discussion with the Center has been sought on the matter. Despite strong opposition from the BJP, the proposal was passed in the assembly.
