Australian Ambassador to Washington Kevin Rudd shared several negative posts on social media about US presidential candidate Donald Trump. However, after the victory of the Republican candidate, the ambassador has now deleted all those posts. He also said that his comments do not reflect the views of the Australian government.
Rudd is a former Prime Minister of Australia. Currently working as the country's ambassador to the United States. The ambassador made comments about Trump on his personal website as the head of a US-based think tank.
Among his since-deleted comments was describing Trump in 2020 as 'the most destructive president in history'.
"Out of respect for the office of the President of the United States and following the election of President Trump, Ambassador Rudd has now removed these past comments from his personal website and social media channels," a statement read.
'Such comments may raise the possibility of misunderstanding as reflecting his position as ambassador and, by extension, the views of the Australian government. That's why Rudd removed the comments.
Earlier, when asked about Rudd's comments in a British TV interview last March, Trump said Rudd was a bright bulb and evil. He may not be there long. That's why he made such a comment.'
Trump's comments suggest Rudd's tenure as ambassador to the United States may become more difficult now that he is in power.
