Former UP Chairman and Awami League President Mehraj Uddin of Noakhali's Dwip Upazila Hatyar Nizhumdwip Union has been arrested by joint forces. He was arrested from his home in Bandartila Bazar of Nijhumdwip Union at 12 o'clock on Wednesday (November 6).
According to the sources of the joint force, the former UP chairman of Nijhum Dwip Union and Awami League president. Mehraj Uddin was absconding for a long time. After learning that he had stayed at his home on Wednesday morning, joint forces arrested him at 12 midnight.
Local residents said Mehraj was the chairman for 10 years. During his tenure in power, he became the owner of crores of rupees by grabbing the land of common people. On Wednesday morning, Nijhum entered the island and tried to resume his past terrorist activities. He was finally arrested with the help of the Navy and the police.'
Navy Weapons Contingent Commander Habibur Rahman confirmed the arrest and said that the arrested Mehraj Uddin is staying at Nijhum Island, the locals informed the law enforcement agencies. We conducted a joint operation with the police and navy and arrested him. The Navy is making all-out efforts to maintain law and order situation in Hatyar.
