"I don't believe that Trump in Washington will actually damage our revolution or bring back so-called fascism." We don't care about the election in Washington. We care a little about Washington.'
Mahmudur Rahman, Editor of Dainik Amar Desh, said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the publication festival of author Shahadat Hossain Khan's book 'Chabbisher Ganavyutthan' at Jahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Thursday.
Mahmudur Rahman said, 'We made the revolution with the power of our students, not with any foreign power. We care little about Washington. So I don't believe that Trump in Washington will actually damage our revolution or that so-called fascism will come back. If I believe this, it will be an insult to our great martyrs. They gave their lives to build a strong self-reliant nation. A nation that would not look to Washington. So we don't care about the election in Washington. We have to remember that.'
He said, 'Many people say that Awami League will probably come to power after Trump's victory. But our biggest strength is that there was no foreign support in this revolution. This revolution is completely our revolution. So whether Trump or Biden or Kamala Harris is real in Washington, we don't care. We did not revolutionize with the support of Washington.'
Mahmudur Rahman also said, 'Bangladesh has actually become a protectorate of India for the last 16 years. And from there our young society has freed us for the second time. Our young students. Amara only talks about the students but while saying this we should not forget the common people, we should not forget the workers.'
Remembering the National Solidarity Day, he said, 'On November 7, 1975, we saw the revolution of the sepoy people. By the extraordinary revolution the Indian conspiracy was thwarted. Through that coup, all Bangladeshis got the taste of freedom in real sense.'
Former Army Chief (retired) Lt. Gen. Nooruddin Khan gave a virtual speech under the chairmanship of Naya Digant newspaper editor Alamgir Mohiuddin.
At that time Shahadat Hossain Khan, the author of the book 'Chabbisher Ganoabhyutthan' and many others were present.
