Principal arrested without case, blockade demanding release

The principal of Chandina Mahila College of Comilla's Chandina Upazila Sadar has been arrested without any criminal activity or case. The District Detective Police arrested Principal Mamun Parvez from his Talpukurpar residence in Comilla city on Wednesday night.

On Thursday (November 7) morning, when the news spread in the college, the college campus became agitated with protests. In the afternoon, the angry students stopped the traffic on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway by taking a position at Chandina Upazila Gate area.

The students staged a protest on the highway from 12:30 noon to 1:30 a.m. demanding the unconditional release of the principal. It caused a 6 km long traffic jam on both sides of the highway. Later they came to the Upazila Parishad square and demonstrated.

The students of Chandina Women's College complained that the assistant professor of the ICT department of the college, Enayet Ullah Bhuiyan, was taken from Chandina's house and sent to jail on a false case without any case. On Wednesday night, the district detective police picked up the principal from his house.


The students demanded the unconditional release of the principal along with a fair investigation of the incident and a trial for the abuse of power by the law and order forces.

Meanwhile, in the afternoon, detective police produced Principal Mamun Parvez in the court of Judge Nishat Jahan Chowdhury of Amli Court-1 of Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate.

Principal's lawyer Advocate Mohiuddin Ahmed Alam said that Principal Mamun Parvez was arrested in a false case. After taking the principal from the DB office to the court, when we applied for a hearing, the court did not entertain the application. Send him to jail.

Highway Police Mainamati Crossing Police Station OC Iqbal Bahar Majumder said that our highway police reached the spot after receiving the information and the traffic flow became normal when the students moved away from the highway.

Chandina Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Nazia Hossain said, I assured the students and removed them from the highway. After that they were in Upazila Parishad for a long time. I assured the students that Principal Mamun Parvez should be released through due legal process.

Comilla DB OC Sajjad Karim Khan said that the teacher was arrested from a house in the city on Wednesday night. He has been arrested in a case filed at Kotwali Model Police Station in connection with the attack and shooting at the anti-discrimination student movement. Although he is not named in the statement of the case, he is an accused in the investigation. He was produced before the court in the afternoon.

Other teachers panicked

The teachers of Chandina Women's College are worried about the arrest of two people from the same college, including the principal. Several teachers said that the college principal Mamun Parvez is not involved in any non-political activities. What is the name of insulting teachers and dishonoring them? Now there is panic among us about going to and from college. Sleeping at home with wife and children has also become a liability.
