An autorickshaw driver named Alim Molla alias Ali (48) was hacked to death after being called from his home by calling on his mobile phone to carry passengers. This incident happened on Wednesday night.
Alim Molla lived with his family in Paschimdi area of Tegharia Union of South Keraniganj.
Farman Molla, the younger brother of the deceased, said that an unknown person called his brother's mobile phone around 7:30 pm on Wednesday. The person called Ali Bhai from his home by talking about carrying passengers on the phone.
He further said that around 8:30 pm, a neighbor found Ali Bhai along with a passenger at Kadmatoli Roundabout in Keraniganj. Then that neighbor Ali Bhai's autorickshaw wanted to come to our area. At this time, the passengers sitting behind the autorickshaw said, we have rented this CNG reserve. So he can't pick up any more passengers in this CNG. The neighbor left after hearing this.
Later, at around 9:30 pm, an autorickshaw driver called Ali Bhai's elder son Sajjad Molla's mobile phone and said that Ali Bhai was lying unconscious and bleeding in Chanditala area of Jhilmil Housing Project in Keraniganj. People rescued him and took him to Mitford Hospital. After learning about this, we went to Mitford Hospital and found the brother dead. He had sharp weapon injuries on his throat, neck and back. The miscreants brutally hacked the brother to death.
Sajjad Molla, the son of the deceased, said that the father took Tk 30,000 in cash with him when he left the house. That money was taken away by miscreants. However, the miscreants did not take the father's autorickshaw and mobile phone.
He also said that this is not a case of robbery. My father was systematically called and hacked to death. Those involved in this murder must be arrested. I want justice for the murder of my father.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dakshin Keraniganj Police Station Mazharul Islam said that the investigation into the murder of the auto-rickshaw driver is ongoing. Initially, it seems like it was a planned murder.
