Finally, after two long years, the Municipal Terminal of Benapole Land Port of Sharsha Upazila of Jessore was opened. The terminal located in Amrakhali area of Benapole municipality was opened at the initiative of Sharsha upazila administration at around 11 o'clock on Thursday.
Earlier, local buses and long-distance transport had to stand for hours in the 3 km area of Benapole Amrakhali market and port on the Jessore-Benapole highway. India-bound passport passengers and residents of Benapole had to suffer. India-Bangladesh import and export trade was disrupted.
A spectacular bus terminal was constructed at a cost of Tk 16 crore in Benapole's Amrakhali to alleviate traffic congestion in the Benapole municipality and port area; Which was formally inaugurated by the former home minister on March 4 last year. Since then, Benapole municipality has been collecting municipal toll of Tk 50 per vehicle for bus terminal without starting any kind of activities.
Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kazi Sajib Nazir started the operation of the bus terminal on Thursday after two long years to relieve the severe traffic congestion and suffering of common people in Benapole port area.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Sharsha Upazila and Executive Magistrate Nusrat Yasmin and Officer-in-Charge of Benapole Port Police Station Russell Mia were present at this time.
President of C&F Association Shamsur Rahman said that Benapole is the biggest land port of the country. The government earns about 10 thousand crores of revenue directly and indirectly through this port. The opening of the bus terminal will increase the mobility of the Benapole Port along with public convenience.
Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kazi Najib Hasan said that the operation of this bus terminal was closed for a long time even after the construction work was completed. Considering the biggest land port of the country and the suffering of the local people, all the activities of the bus terminal have been started today. From now on, activities will continue as usual.
