District BNP member AK Sharfuddaula Chhotalu is angry about not getting all the tenders for supply of medical equipment (MSR) worth Tk 5 crore to Jessore's 250-bed general hospital. Under his leadership, the hospital supervisor Dr. Haroon Or Rashid was allegedly assaulted.

The incident took place in the hospital supervisor's office around 10:30 am on Thursday. The CCTV footage of the assault was also circulated on mobile phones.

Accused AK Sharfuddaula Chhotalu is the director of a contracting firm named 'AK Sharfuddaula' and member of Jessore district BNP convening committee.

Jessore 250 bed general hospital supervisor Dr. Haroon Or Rashid told reporters that Mr. Chhotalu is the brother-in-law of former minister Tariqul Islam. Recently there was a job tender. He submitted tenders in several groups of those tenders. He got excited because he didn't get all the work. Later in his presence his men came to remove me from my chair. Then I also tried to stop that boy to protect my honor. This incident has been reported to the District Commissioner. The action he may direct next will be taken.

BNP leader AK Sharfuddaula called Chhotalu's mobile phone to inquire about the complaint, but he did not receive it. Later he told reporters, I have a contracting company; However, no tender was submitted to the hospital. I had a job with him so I went. He may have some trouble with Habibullah. So they both had a fight. I tried to prevent it.

It is known that in the last month of October, tenders of about 5 crore rupees were invited in 6 groups for the supply of medical equipment (MSR) to the Jessore 250-bed General Hospital. Various contracting companies from Jessore and surrounding districts participated in this tender. District BNP member AK Sharfuddaula Chhotalu's preferred institution also participated in it. Chhotalu's preferred organization got some group work but not all.

After learning about the matter, he entered the hospital with a group of youths on Thursday morning. He went to the hospital superintendent's room and asked why he was not getting full time. At one point he got angry and ordered the BNP workers to assault the supervisor.

According to the CCTV footage of the hospital and talking to the concerned persons present, BNP leader Sharfuddaula Chhotalu left his room after talking to the hospital caretaker. Immediately after that, BNP worker Habibullah entered the room. He enters and dominates the caretaker. Meanwhile, 7-8 more people led by Chhotalu entered the caretaker's room. Chotolu and Habibullah are seen getting excited there. At one stage, Chotolu ordered Habibullah to be removed from the supervisor's chair. As instructed to bring the hospital supervisor down from the chair, the supervisor also defended himself by holding the collar of Habibullah's shirt. At this time, there was a fight between the two. Later, when other hospital staff moved forward, Chhotalu left with his people.

Acting Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Jessore 250-bed General Hospital Bajlur Rashid said that he went to the caretaker's room in the middle of the incident. At that time, BNP leader Chhotalu Saheb went to pick up Habibullah and two caretakers from the chair. The caretaker later grabbed one by the collar in self-defense. At one stage of the scuffle, when everyone moved forward, they left the room.
