The BNP leader of Habiganj's Madhavpur police station has also been made an accused in a case with Awami League president Sheikh Hasina regarding the casualties in the anti-discrimination student movement at Dhaka's Hatirjheel police station.
Even the plaintiff in the case does not know the accused Madhavpur Thana BNP Information and Research Secretary Ekhlachuzzaman Bhuiyan. The leaders of Madhavpur Upazila BNP were shocked by this incident. Ekhlachuzzaman Bhuiyan held a press conference expressing his anger at being accused in the conspiracy case.
He held this press conference at the Jagdishpur Union office in Madhavpur yesterday (November 7) morning. In the press conference, BNP leader Ekhlachuzzaman Bhuiyan said, "Last July-August, we declared solidarity with the Madhavpur Upazila BNP together with the anti-discrimination student movement." It has live video along with many stills. On the other hand, a person in Hatirjheel police station has conspired and involved me in this case to politically degrade me.
He also said that a Jagdishpur Union Awami League leader named Zakaria accused me in several false and conspiracy cases in 16 years due to my role in BNP's agitation during the fascist dictatorial regime. Angry students surrounded Zakaria's house on August 5 due to harassment of BNP leaders by filing a case with Awami League. Since then he has been running away from home and has been plotting against BNP leaders. I think it was Zakaria who put my name in the case for harassment.
In response to the questions of the journalists, this leader of BNP also said that we have spoken to the high command of BNP. They told us that they will look into this matter.
General Secretary of Madhavpur Upazila BNP Hamidur Rahman Hamdu said that Ekhlachuzzaman is a dedicated worker of BNP. We will give a certificate from the Upazila BNP if necessary.
Meanwhile, the plaintiff Mozarul claimed that he did not know the accused Ekhlachuzzaman Bhuiyan.
Hatirjheel police station OC Mohammad Raju said the case has been filed in court. We list the case as directed by the court. The matter is under investigation.
