A father was brutally hacked and slaughtered in his home in front of his son due to a dispute over land in Kanighat, Sylhet. The incident took place at Dhalibil Dakshin Nayagaon village of the upazila around 6:30 am on Friday.

The main accused Sultan Ahmed (50) was arrested by the police. Ram Dao used in the murder has been recovered.

Kanaighat police station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Awal confirmed the matter.

Eyewitnesses and relatives of the deceased said that Faizul Hossain (68), son of deceased Abdul Latif of Nayagaon village, was killed by cousin Sultan Elopatadi and cut his throat. There was a land dispute between them. After the incident, the killer Sultan confessed to the murder in front of local residents and police.

Locals said that Faizul was in his house with his son Ali Raja. The Sultan attacked them with a sharp Ram Da. Ali retreated in fear. Sultan killed Faizul and took refuge in his house. The locals arrested him and handed him over to the police.

OC Awal said that a murder case is being registered in the police station.
