Deceased Hira is the son of late Prafulla Debnath of Govinda Doctor Bari of Hamchadi area and the owner of Matri Jewelers of Kazirdighi Par area.
Hira's son Pritam Debnath said, after closing the shop, father was going home on a bicycle. I was on the motorcycle in front of my father. Among them, three men riding a motorcycle sped ahead of us and stopped on the side of the road near the house in front of us. Thinking normal, I went home. Then father was coming behind.
He said, at one stage, a man stopped the father's bicycle and hit him with a knife. Later they ran away. When the father was rescued and brought to Sadar Hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Samir Karmakar, president of Laxmipur district branch of Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS), said that one of our members was killed. Our delegation went to the hospital. I demand that those involved in this incident be quickly identified and brought under the law.
District Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council President Shankar Majumder said, I wish for strong intervention of the administration to identify the killers as soon as possible. There is panic in the area in this incident.
Kamla Sheesh Roy, the doctor on duty at Sadar Hospital, said that a person named Hira was brought to the hospital and declared dead. He died before being brought to the hospital. There are injury marks on two parts of his body. The cause of death will be known after the autopsy report.
