The army chiefs of India and Bangladesh recently held a virtual meeting to improve bilateral relations between Dhaka-Delhi. At that time, Firad Hakim, an important minister of the West Bengal government and mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, expressed a negative attitude about the current situation in Bangladesh.

On Friday (November 8) in response to questions from journalists, he said in a practically threatening tone, Bangladesh will not exist if India is removed.

Minister Firhad Hakim initially said that they should not say anything about foreign policy though. But what is happening is not right. The relationship between the two countries was a friendly one.

While recalling the contribution of India during the independence war of Bangladesh, he said that it should not be forgotten that the independence of Bangladesh would never have come without the help of India. India supported the Liberation War and recognized the Provisional Government of Bangladesh during the war. We have given them plenty of shelter on Indian soil. So Bangladesh cannot exist without India, it will not exist.

According to political analysts, such reckless attitude and comments are also negative in terms of international relations, trade and culture between the two countries.

When the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of India is showing a flexible diplomatic attitude with respect and dignity in relation to Dhaka from Delhi, this comment of Firad Hakim, an important minister of the West Bengal Government, can cause considerable political tension in the international arena, analysts believe.
