The Zia Cricket Tournament is going to start from November 10. Aminul Haque, the former captain of the national football team, is serving as the advisor for this tournament organized on the occasion of National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

In a press conference on Thursday (November 7), Aminul Haque said that cricket took shape in independent Bangladesh during the reign of martyred President Ziaur Rahman. The MCC cricket team toured Bangladesh on January 7, 1977 to play a three-day match. Bangladesh's journey in international cricket started with that match.

Aminul said that the initiative to organize this tournament has been taken as a continuation of that. National team opener Tamim Iqbal and former cricketer Mohammad Ashraful, who is on the tournament committee, are expected to inaugurate the tournament, they said.
He further said, we want to keep sports away from politics. The ousted Awami League government has completely politicized the sports arena and because of that the country's sports arena has suffered a lot. We want to bring back the golden days of our sport and cricket.

The first phase of the game will be held in 10 venues of the country with 20 teams. Apart from Bogra, Faridpur, Barisal, Khulna, Comilla, Chittagong, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Sylhet and Dhaka (City Club Ground) are also on the list of venues. Starting from November 10 in Bogra, the first phase of the tournament will be played at other venues between November 16 and December 20.

And the main episode will start on January 16. At the end of the first phase, two more teams named Dhaka Metropolitan North and Dhaka Metropolitan South will join the 10 teams that emerged in the main phase. The final will be held at the Mirpur Sher Bangla Cricket Stadium on January 19, the birth centenary of the country's freedom fighter martyred President Ziaur Rahman.

Tournament member secretary Debbrata Pal said that usually a divisional team is formed with 35 cricketers and only 15 cricketers are available to play the matches. The remaining 20 cricketers practice with the team. We have spoken to the coaches and departmental authorities to play the tournament. If the divisional team or the national team calls them, we will release them quickly.
