Babar is seriously ill, 4 doctors will go to jail

Jumbangla Desk: BNP leader and former State Minister of Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar has been incarcerated in Dhaka Central Jail (Keraniganj) for the last 17 years. He is suffering from various diseases including shortness of breath, complicated kidney problems, back pain.

In this situation, a medical board has been formed to ensure his better treatment. 4 doctors will go to observe him in prison on Saturday (November 9).


On Friday (November 8) night, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (DIG Prisons) of Dhaka Division. Jahangir Kabir confirmed the matter and said that Lutfuzzaman Babar was suffering from various diseases. Therefore, on the advice of the jail doctor and the civil surgeon, letters were sent to the hospital authorities to send doctors for the diseases concerned. For that reason, the BSMMU authorities have informed the Dhaka Central Jail authorities that they will send four doctors to prison on Saturday (November 9).

It is known that Lutfuzzaman Babar is suffering from various diseases due to being imprisoned for a long time and not being given necessary treatment. Among these diseases are bronchial asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GED), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), hypertension (HPT), spondylolysis, polyps, arthritis and osteoporosis. His kidneys are also on the verge of failure.


Lutfuzzaman Babar was arrested on May 28, 2007 during the caretaker government. There are cases against him for corruption, grenade attacks, 10 truckloads of weapons and murder of Awami League leaders. Anti-corruption commission filed a case against him on January 13, 2008 at Ramna police station on allegations of illegal acquisition of wealth and concealment of information.


In addition, the court sentenced 19 people including Lutfuzzaman Babar, former deputy minister Abdus Salam Pintu to death for their involvement in the grenade attack on the Awami League rally in Dhaka on August 21, 2004. Lutfuzzaman Babar has been in jail since 2007. Apart from this, he is also a death sentence accused in 10 truck weapons case.
