According to a report of the Indian media The Hindu, the deceased woman was first shot, then her body was set on fire by miscreants. Due to which Manipur has become restless once again.

The violent incident took place in Zairaun, Hama tribal village. The Hamar are ethnically related to the Kuki-Jo people, who have been in conflict with the Meitei community in the state since 3 May 2023.

The woman's husband Nugurthansang said a bullet hit Josangkim's thigh . Josangkim was a teacher at the local Harmon Dew English Junior High School.

The assailants allowed Nugurthansang's elderly parents and three children aged four to eight to leave, but refused to release his wife, ITLF said.
