Jumbangla Desk: Former General Secretary of Rajshahi University Chhatra League Faisal Ahmed Runu has been arrested in India.

He was arrested by BSF on November 2 from Bangladesh border between Tikapara and Kedaripara of Habibpur block in Malda . The matter is known from a report of Indian media Anandabazar yesterday Saturday.

In the report, Faisal Ahmed Runu has been called as 'Faizal Ahmed'. According to the Indian police report, Faisal was the general secretary of Chhatra League in Rajshahi University from 2016 to 2023. Currently he is the organizing secretary of Rajshahi District Youth League. Malda police superintendent Pradeep Kumar Yadav said, 'He is being interrogated. The investigation is going on.'

According to police and BSF sources, the young man entered India through the open border route between Tikapara and Kedaripara border outposts on the Bangladesh border of Habibpur block on November 2 at noon. Then the members of the 88th battalion of BSF who were patrolling there arrested him. BSF handed him over to Habibpur Police Station that afternoon. The next day, the police produced him in the court and took him into their custody for three days and then for five days on the orders of the judge.

Faisal claimed to the police that he was in hiding for about two months after the recent political change in Bangladesh. He fled to India to save his life.

It has been found that Faisal Ahmed Runu's house is in Nowhata of Paba Upazila of Rajshahi. His father, Awami League leader Abdul Gafur Sarkar, is a three-time chairman of the Union Parishad. In 2008, he was elected as the mayor of Nowhata Municipality. His son Faisal Ahmed got involved in campus student politics after getting admission in Computer Science and Engineering Department of Rajshahi University. Finally in December 2016 he was elected General Secretary of Rajshahi University Branch Chhatra League through the conference and was in charge till 2023. Last June, he got the post of organizing secretary of Rajshahi District Jubo League.
