Reports of Putin-Trump phone conversation 'baseless', claims Russia

Russia has rejected media reports that there was a recent phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and newly elected US President Donald Trump.

Russia has rejected media reports that there was a recent phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and newly elected US President Donald Trump.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Monday (November 11) called such reports by Western media 'completely baseless' and 'completely fictitious'.

Recent reports from the Washington Post and Reuters claimed that during the conversation, Putin and Trump discussed the situation in Ukraine and maintaining peace in Europe.

Peskov strongly criticized such reports, calling them "a glaring example of the misinformation that sometimes appears in even the most respected media."

According to the Kremlin website, Putin and Trump last spoke by phone in July 2020, near the end of Trump's first term. In that conversation, the two leaders discussed various international issues, especially strategic stability.

Over the next few months, Putin issued joint statements with US and French leaders on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and other issues. Later, Putin also sent a message wishing for Trump's speedy recovery.

Peskov made it clear that Putin has not sent any greetings to any Western leader in the past two years. Not even US President Biden.

It should be noted that Putin and Trump have met face to face several times. Especially at the Russia-US summit held in Helsinki, Finland in July 2018. There, the two leaders held private and wide-ranging discussions on various issues.

In addition, according to veteran American journalist Bob Woodward, Trump and Putin may still be in contact after his first term ends.

However, Kremlin spokesman Peskov completely denied the claim.

On the other hand, Putin's last conversation with President Biden was in February 2022. In that conversation, they discussed the situation in Ukraine and Russia's security guarantees.

In recent months, Putin said Biden sent him a letter about Ukraine. In response, Putin wrote that if Washington stopped supplying arms to Ukraine, the conflict could end within two to three months.

From all the events it was understood that there are various speculations about the communication between the leaders in the current situation in the international arena. Some baseless information is also being spread among them.

One of which is the latest published Putin-Trump phone call, which Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has publicly denied. Source: Tas
