No incident of arrest or repression of supporters of US President-elect Donald Trump has occurred in Bangladesh. This was stated in a post on the factchecking Facebook page (CA Press Wing Facts) of the Interim Government of Bangladesh's Chief Advisor Press Wing.
According to the post, several Awami League leaders and activists were arrested on Sunday on charges of planning subversive activities in the capital Dhaka. There are accusations of genocide, corruption and laundering of billions of dollars against the leaders and workers of the party.
It is said in the post that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has issued a statement in this regard. The statement said fugitive Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina had ordered her supporters to carry posters of Donald Trump and use them as a shield against arrest. The arrested persons told the police that they did not follow US politics, but only carried Trump posters on Hasina's orders.
The post also said that some Indian newspapers have aggressively misrepresented the student-led mass uprising since Sheikh Hasina was ousted in August in an unprecedented revolution. They greatly exaggerated the incidents of violence against minorities in the post-revolutionary days. They have similarly exaggerated the arrest of Awami League supporters.
