A statement from SVR on Sunday said the US State Department was working on various strategies to remove Zelensky and replace him in Ukraine, calling it "extremely presumptuous".
According to information received from SVR, the US is considering holding presidential and parliamentary elections in Ukraine next year amid the ongoing war with Russia, Russian news agency TASS reported. SVR said that the current leadership may be removed through this.
The SVR also said that the US diplomatic corps would influence Ukrainian civil society organizations to encourage them to launch an election campaign that would garner widespread public support.
Candidates participating in the election process will be nominated under US supervision, and US NGOs will help local organizations monitor the election, the Russian intelligence agency said.
In addition, Western-funded Ukrainian activists at the initiative of the United States have begun discussions on forming a new pro-American political party, SVR reported.
Russian intelligence agencies claim that this group will play an important role in keeping any Ukrainian leader under control by entering the Verkhovna Rada, the parliament of Ukraine.
According to the SVR, this program shows that high-level US officials want to keep decision-making power about Ukraine's future and its leadership in their own hands. Source: Meher News Agency
