Jumbangla Desk: Police have arrested a fugitive convicted under the Narcotics Control Act in Chandpur after a century. Sadar Model Police Sub-Inspector Tarun Kanti Chakma arrested accused Malek Molla (30) on Saturday (November 16) morning.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station, Bahar Mia, said that Malek Molla, a resident of Professor Para in the district town, was caught with drugs in April 2011. A case was filed against him.
After a century last year a court of Chandpur announced the verdict of this case. In this, the accused Malek Mollah was sentenced to two years without labor imprisonment and at the same time a fine of 1000 taka was awarded by the judge for another 5 days without labor imprisonment. But the accused Malek Molla was absconding since the incident.
The OC also said that the court has already given instructions to arrest the absconding accused after the verdict. As a result of this, on the basis of secret information, the convicted fugitive was arrested.
Earlier, Faridganj police station of the district arrested another accused, Ruhul Amin, who was sentenced to 10 years, from Upazila Paschim Alonia village.
On the other hand, regarding the increase in police activity after the change in the country that happened about three and a half months ago, Superintendent of Police of Chandpur Muhammad Abdur Rakib said that the police are determined to fulfill their duties through transparency. Therefore, in any case, the police will continue to arrest the absconding accused or eliminate new crimes .
He also said not to give in to any kind of laxity or immoral pressure.
