Jumbangla Desk: An old woman named Jahanara Begum (60) who went missing after 25 years has been found by her relatives through Facebook. His younger daughter Hasi Akhter and sister-in-law Mostafa Mirza took him from Zangalia Bazar area of Pakundia Upazila in Kishoreganj on Friday (November 15) afternoon. She is the wife of Abdul Latif Faraiji of Ghatbaria village of Barguna Sadar Upazila and mother of 5 children. Earlier in 1999, he went missing from the Sadarghat launch terminal.
Elder Jahanara Begum's sister-in-law Mustafa Mirza said, 25 years ago today, Jahanara Begum left Barguna for her relative's house in Dhaka with her 3-year-old son Saidul (current age 28). He got off the launch at Sadarghat early in the morning and went to the toilet leaving his little son. He came out of there and did not find his son. He has not been found since. The family gave up after finding relatives everywhere, including their homes. His family also found his son Saidul, who went missing 10 years ago.
For the past 15-20 days, Jahanara Begum was seen roaming in Jangalia Bazaar of Pakundia Upazila of Kishoreganj. Among them, Ashraful Alam, president of Jangalia Bazaar Committee, was taken to Ripon's house and asked to know his identity. Due to mental breakdown, he was saying the family name and address in an incoherent manner. Only the words 'Barguna and Ghatbaria' were understood. Posts are given on social media with those words. After that his relatives contacted from Barguna. He was handed over to his family on Friday afternoon.
After a long time, the little girl Hasi Begum burst into tears after seeing her mother. He said, finding my mother is like finding my world. Mother passed away without us. We are still married. I thought I would never see my mother's face again. He expressed his gratitude to everyone for finding him after so many years.
Ashraful Alam Ripon, President of Jangalia Bazaar Committee, said, "This woman has been staying in front of my shop for 15-20 days. He has been eating at my house for 5-6 days. We are happy that Jahanara Begum has found her family after so many years.
Jahanara Begum was handed over to her family around 11 am on Friday. At this time, Jangalia Union panel chairman Omar Farooq, former chairman Toufiqul Islam, teacher Shafiqul Islam, retired army member Abul Kalam and other dignitaries of the area were present.
