Jumbangla Desk: In Rupganj of Narayanganj, there was an attack on a journalist named Jahangir Mahmud led by the Chhatra Dal leader for publishing news and not getting the subscription money. The terrorists smashed his head and body with bricks. Meanwhile, Chhatra Dal leader Yasin fired several rounds of blank bullets and created panic in the area.
The attack took place on Sunday (November 17) around 11:30 am in Golakandail Dakshinpara No. 5 canal area of the upazila.

Accused Chhatra Dal leader Yasin Mia alias Fancy Yasin is the son of Abu Bakr from Sonab area of Bhulta Union of Upazila. He is the former co-editor of Zilla Chhatra Dal.
Journalist Jahangir Mahmud, who is undergoing treatment in the hospital, said that while he was working in Kalbela newspaper, he had published reports against the forces of Yasin Mia alias Fancy Yasin on various crimes including drugs, extortion, land grabbing. Infuriated by this, Yasin Mia demanded two lakh rupees from him as compensation for the last 15 days. If he refused to pay the subscription money, he threatened to sue and attack several times, including murder.
Around 11:30 today, a terrorist force of 40-50 men led by Yasin Mia, armed with indigenous weapons, besieged Jahangir Mahmud and demanded tribute. When they refused to pay, the terrorists beat different parts of their bodies and heads with bricks. Yasin fired several rounds of blank bullets and left the area when the people around came forward on Jahangir's shout. Later his relatives rescued him and admitted him to Rupganj Upazila Health Complex.
In this incident, Rupganj Press Club's organizing secretary and daily Kaler Kantha journalist Russell Ahmed filed a complaint at Rupganj police station.
Advocate Mahfuzur Rahman Humayun, President of Rupganj Upazila BNP, said that criminals such as terrorists, extortionists, drug dealers, land grabbers are not members of the party. Strongly condemn and protest this attack.
Narayanganj District Assistant Superintendent of Police (C Circle) Mehdi Islam said, "This is a shameful incident." Those involved will be identified and brought under the law quickly.
