Jumbangla Desk: His alleged lover Ruma Akhter (28) and Ruma's girlfriend Roksana Ruku (26) gave a chilling description of the murder of industrialist Jasim Uddin Masum, owner of moon dyeing factory in Fatulla, Narayanganj.
Narayanganj Court's Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Haider Ali recorded the confessional statement of the two under section 164 on Friday (November 15) afternoon.
Ruma and Ruku admitted all the information willingly and candidly to the court judge by describing the last detail of the gruesome murder. Narayanganj Court Police Inspector Md. Qayyum Khan.
He said that the estranged lover Ruma and her girlfriend Ruku gave a detailed account of the incident in their confessional statement under Section 164. Later on the orders of the court, the accused were sent to the district jail.
Earlier on Wednesday (November 13) morning, the police recovered 7 pieces of industrialist Jasim Uddin Masum's body wrapped in three black polythene from the bank of Purbachal suburb of Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj. Later, with the help of technology and various video footages, within 24 hours of the investigation, various law enforcement agencies including the district police revealed the mystery of the murder.
In connection with the murder of industrialist Jasim Uddin Masum, the district police arrested 4 people including Ruma and Ruku from the rented flat of Masum in Sheorapara area of Kafrul police station of the capital on Thursday (November 14). Later, Ruma and Ruku were arrested in the murder case filed by the family at Rupganj police station and the other two were released.
A police officer involved in the investigation of the murder case said that after the murder, Ruma was at Kafrul's Sheorapara residence. He moved and slept without any tension. Police woke him up and questioned him on Wednesday night (November 13). Ruma frankly admitted everything about the incident. The next day, Ruma and her girlfriend Ruku were arrested and brought to the Narayanganj Police Superintendent's Office for questioning. Later, the two arrested women voluntarily agreed to testify in court.
In the deposition, Ruma claims that her younger sister, girlfriend, wife and her child live in a three-room flat in Kafrul. After Jasim Uddin Masum came to that house on November 10, he was made unconscious by mixing anesthetic with milk. In this condition, he was kept in that house for two days. After killing Jasim Uddin Masum in the bathroom of a room on Tuesday (November 12), the body was hacked into 11 pieces with a chapati and a hexo blade. Later, Ruma brought three big black polythene bags with one of his friends and put seven pieces of the dead body in CNG on Kuril Biswa Road 300 feet east of Rupganj on the bank of a lake and threw the other four pieces in a nearby house. After the arrest of Ruma, on Thursday (November 14) afternoon, when the police took him to Purwapur, according to his testimony, the police recovered four more parts of Jasim Uddin Masum's body from Kashban. Arms, legs and chest fragments from the waist were the next body parts recovered.
After the murder, Ruma left the chapati, hexo blade and the clothes worn by the deceased Jasim Uddin Masum in a house on Banani road number 20 of the capital. Later, the house was raided and they were seized.
During police interrogation, Ruma admitted that she had been close to industrialist Masum for a long time. Jasim Uddin Masum also promised to marry Ruma at one stage. Recently, Masum became addicted to another woman and developed a physical relationship with her. In this, Ruma deliberately killed Masum out of anger, hatred and emotion.
On Sunday (November 10) afternoon, Masum left his house and went to Gulshan and withdrew eight and a half lakh taka from the bank. Later he asked the private car and the driver to go back home as he would go to the dyeing factory in Narayanganj in another car. As Masum did not return home that night and his mobile phone was switched off, the elder son Obaidul Islam Shibu filed a missing report at the Gulshan police station of the capital on Monday (November 11).
Then on Wednesday (November 13) morning, the police recovered seven pieces of the body of an unidentified person wrapped in polythene from the bank of the lake in Purbachal suburb of Rupganj upazila's Kanchan-Kuril road. On the same day, on the basis of information from the GD and the investigation with the help of technology, the police confirmed that the pieces of the recovered body belonged to Masum, an industrialist of Fatulla. After receiving the news, the relatives went to the Sadar General Hospital morgue and identified the body.
Industrialist Jasim Uddin Masum's driver Abdul Malek said, Masum has produced two movies including 'Nadi Jale Shapla Bhase'. While wandering in the world of cinema, he met many heroes and heroines. Based on this, about a year ago, the unmarried Ruma Akhtar met and soon after that, a close relationship developed. Later Masum rented that flat house to Ruma in Kafrul's Sheorapara. Since then he used to travel to that flat regularly.
According to Ruma during the police interrogation, Masum promised to make her a heroine and marry her after meeting industrialist Jasim. Because of that, a close relationship is formed between them.
District Police Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Md. Tariqul Islam said that the arrested Ruma Akhter is the daughter of Nazar Ali of Tarakanda area of Gouripur police station of Mymensingh district. Even though he studied up to class 9, he acquired good skills in computer work. This unmarried woman was working in a private company in Banani area of the capital. During the last Eid-ul-Fitr, he met industrialist Jasim Uddin in a business establishment in Dhaka and soon developed a close relationship between them.
Another accused in the case, Roksana Ruku, girlfriend of Ruma Akhter, is the daughter of deceased Abdul Haque of Kanikshalgaon village of Ruhia police station in Thakurgaon district. She is said to be involved in modeling.
According to family sources, Jasim Uddin Masum is a permanent resident of Shastapur area under Fatulla Thana of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila. He has three dyeing factories and various business establishments there, including Chand Dyeing. Jasim Uddin Masum was living in Bashundhara residential area of the capital with his wife and three children for about ten years.
