Jumbangla Desk: At least 10 people were injured in the clash between two sides of BNP over the lease of market in Bhola's Lalmohan. On Monday (November 18), the clash took place in Debirchar market of Badarpur union.
Five of the injured have been sent to other places for advanced treatment with first aid from the Upazila Health Complex.
According to local sources, there was a discussion on Monday morning between Badarpur Union BNP (North) President Shahiduliah Melkar Group and Union BNP's former General Secretary Kamal Group on market lease.
At one stage of this incident, Shahiduliah Melkar's people attacked Kamal's people with buggies, chisels, rods and native weapons. Later, while trying to resist them, the two sides clashed. At least 10 people from both sides were injured in this clash.
Former general secretary of Debirchar Union BNP of Badarpur Union. Kamal Which said, 'After August 5, Shahiduliah Melkar and his people started various extortion in Debirchar area.
They took a donation of five lakh taka from the local Noor Islam. When they protested this incident, they vandalized my house. Later, when the upazila BNP leaders were informed, they reconciled the two parties and Shahiduliah Melkar was forced to return the subscription money. Basically, this is what caused the conflict with him.'
He also said, 'Debirchar did not buy from Asad Melkar, the lessee of the market, to raise the rent of the market. But Shahidullah Melkar was not allowing me to collect rent from the market. Shahidullah Melkar and his people used to stop us from collecting rent in the market. They even hired terrorists from different areas on Sundays to beat us up. After knowing the matter, I informed the police station on Sunday night. Then I was told by the police station to inform them if there is a problem.'
He said, 'On Monday morning, Shahidullah Melkar and his people attacked our people. Then we reported the matter to Lalmohan Thana Police and Navy. Before they reached the spot, Shahidullah Melkar and his men started attacking us more recklessly. We also try to resist them.'
Badarpur Union North Branch BNP president Shahiduliah Melkar's mobile phone when the reporter introduced himself, he cut the call. After several attempts, he did not answer the phone. So it was not possible to take his statement.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmohan Police Station. Sirajul Islam said that the trouble was going on for many days based on the lease of Debirchar market. BNP leaders have tried several times to resolve the issue. A clash broke out between the two sides on Monday over the incident. However, after receiving the information, the police went and calmed down the situation. So far no party has filed a complaint in the police station. If written complaint is received, necessary legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
