Jumbangla Desk: Despite the announcement of adopting 'zero tolerance' policy in ragging, 3 students of Patuakhali University of Science and Technology (Pabiprabi) have been admitted to the hospital due to overnight ragging. In this incident, 7 students were immediately identified as accused and expelled from the hall.
The incident took place at M Keramat Ali Hall of the university at 2.30 am on Saturday (November 23). Undergraduate first year (2023-24) students staying in this hall are victims of ragging.
Talking to the students, it is known that M. of the university till late night on Saturday. Rags are given to first year students in Keramat Ali Hall. Unable to bear the torture during the ragging, 3 students fell seriously ill. Many could not sleep at night due to such inhuman torture.
A student of 2023-24 session, who did not want to be named, said that at approximately 12 midnight, the immediate seniors came to the common room and took all our phones and placed them on a table. At one point he held his ears and forced him to sit up. Later, he abused in unspeakable language and told various mandatory rules to create an uncomfortable atmosphere. We are also subjected to various forms of physical and mental torture, from being hung from windows.
In such a situation, the provost of M Keramat Ali Hall, Professor Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun and Assistant Proctor. Abdur Rahim went to the spot. Later, after entering the common room, two people were caught red-handed for being involved in ragging and four people were identified as accused of ragging after going to the canteen.
According to the latest information, 7 students of 2022-23 session have been confirmed to be involved in this work by the Pobiprobi administration.
It is known that three students have been admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on the advice of Pabiprabir Health Care doctor as their condition is critical.
Proctor Professor Abul Bashar Khan said, 'This situation is absolutely not desirable. Stricter and stricter action will be taken against those involved in the incident. In addition, the administration will be more active so that something like this does not happen again and I hope for everyone's cooperation.
In this regard, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Islam said, 'We have decided to expel the accused 7 students from the hall for ragging. A meeting has already been held with the disciplinary board. According to the recommendation of the meeting, a 5-member investigation committee has been formed. According to the report of the committee they will be brought under further punishment including academic.
