International Desk: 23 people were killed when a passenger bus fell into a ditch in Brazil . The accident happened on Sunday on an inaccessible mountain road near the town of União dos Palmares in the state of Alagoas. News from AFP.

The state government said in a statement that the bus fell into the ditch from the mountain road. The rescuers said that 22 people were killed on the spot. A pregnant woman died after being taken to the hospital with injuries.

There were 40 passengers in that bus. Several other people on the bus were injured in the accident, according to reports in various Brazilian media. Alagoas state governor Paulo Dantas declared three days of mourning after the casualties.
